Thrifty Triangle

$4 Florals

Did you guys know that I love thrift stores? No? Really. So much so that I’ve seriously considered changing the name of this blog to Triangle Thrift – more than once this week. That’s right.

Anyhoo. Here is my latest little find, a $4 botanical sketch – in a cool 80′s cheesy gold frame. Very Home Interiors. Remember those old catalogs? This look alike came from a Goodwill in Raleigh.

The frame isn’t in perfect condition, in fact it’s a bit beat up which I think enhances the character of the print.

It now lives in our master bathroom. On my side. I was guesstimating in the store, but it turned out to be the perfect size.

The big red flower ties in with my big red jewelry holder nicely. If you’re new around here check out the past post here.

There is a lot going on in this corner right now. I’m having a major case of design ADD where the casa is concerned, especially in our master suite.

At least I use thrifty items to feed my disorder. You can check out all of our other thrifty finds on this page right here.

My Secret Closet

Have you guys been to this store in Mebane? I never paid much attention to it before now –  it was always that blur of a store that whizzed by as I made my way to the J.Crew outlet to blow the real cash.

Plus they also buy gold which may turn me off as much as people who pop their collars.

For whatever reason I stopped in last week and was pleasantly surprised.  The prices are extremely affordable too, except maybe for the Burberry trench that I spotted for $500. I hate when thrift stores know what they have.

I have a set of candlesticks almost identical to these that were a gift from my grandmother.

This is the first time I’ve seen a similar pair.

I thought this lamp could be really nice which a new shade.

This small gold mirror was adorable and could be a lot of fun in the right room. It was only $12 I think – sorry I replaced that memory with the cost of margaritas in Vieques. Oh well.

This was a purely window shopping trip but lots of nice things live there. It’s definitely worth a stop next time you’re in Mebane. Have you guys been to My Secret Closet before? Sold some gold while you were at it?

Promised and Delivered

If you caught yesterday’s postity post on Durham Mag’s blog you saw that we were chatting up Always Home in a big way.  It’s quite the spiffy little consignment shop on Garrett Road here in Durham. Dangerously near the Goodwill.

Well, in that post we promised additional photos since we’re a bit limited in the Durham Mag blog space.

Check it.

Another amazing rug!

And another camel!

The prices were really affordable. There were so many treasures that I wanted to bring home with me. Like this umbrella stand. It made me want to buy those big long umbrellas just so I could use it.

This urn is hiding in the floor, but it should be up top. It’s fab.

I’ll be headed back this weekend. Anyone want to come along?

We failed to mention via Durham Mag’s blog that the shop is open Monday-Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm. Oops!

A Little Ratan, On the Side

The orange Craigslist chair has a new friend – a much needed friend.

Now we have a convenient place for our beverages – courtesy of the Goodwill on Garrett Road. Remember how long ago we picked it up? See the post here. We talked about painting it, but I think we’re going to keep it natural after all. Shocked?

For $9 it was a pretty good find. We’ve always wanted and needed a small table beside this chair but never found one that was small enough.

Oh, and as you can see we’ve added a spotted pillow.  If you like the look you can get your own in our shop.

The magazine and books are ones we already had on hand and the soda bottle too. The little gold “W” was a $1 impulse buy from Hobby Lobby a few months back.

We’ve also switched out the sofa pillows for the Chiang Mai ones that have been hanging out in the guest bedroom.

Lucy approves of all changes.

Gasoline on a Fire

That’s what it’s like when you folks e-mail me to say how happy it makes you that I scout Goodwill on your behalf.

Below are a few things worth heading to Garrett Road for. Now.

Twin headboards. Love the turned posts. Only $29 each.

Rattan chair that could be made more cute. It’s spinny.

I’m considering a return trip for the vase. Its’ the one on the left. $5.00.

Normally I do not dig the artwork in Goodwill. In the search for coolish needlepoint I’ve been scouring the frames lately and found this guy today. It was framed pretty well and was nice and big for $10.

It reminds me of a Chris Isaak video, which is always a good thing.

Lost and Found

Way back when, in our baby days of blogging, we wrote a long article about how great found objects can be. If you’ve started reading more recently than all of that and want to catch up, check it out here. I just realized that we titled that post exactly the same as this post. I’m predictable if nothing else.

We have a lot of little found treasures around our casa, but most end up in the dining room.

The dining room is now out of room, so we’ve got to start posting all of our sweet finds in the shop for all of you to buy - we like to keep it stocked anyways, other than jewelry, we sell more found items online than anything else.

Here are a few of the things that were added this weekend, after being cleaned up a bit.

The pineapple taper holders are by far my favorite! On eBay, they are going for almost twice what we’re asking.  At any moment I may decide to keep them for myself so please – buy quickly.
