Lunch Break at Lowes

Lunch Break at Lowes

It’s been quite some time since our last Lunch Break at Lowes post – as in I think that we posted one or two and then forgot about them.

So today it’s back with a little chatter all about flowers, paint samples and clean carpets. Much more spring-ish than our last Lunch Break at Lowes which involved Christmas ornaments.

First stop – the garden section for a some blooms to spruce up our ever empty front porch urns. Cue some yellow snapdragons.

They took a ride in the Subaru and now seem pretty happy living here.

Stop numero dos was for paint for our new bedroom cabinet – which is almost done by the way!

In a brief moment of let’s-spend-a-hundred-bucks insanity, I ALMOST splurged on a paint sprayer. It was brief and in the end I picked up a pair of $4 foam rollers instead.

Not to give too much away from an upcoming post, but the foam rollers were super affordable, just as quick and gave us great results.

We also snagged some paint for the cabinet. I considered pre-canned Rustoleum enamel in smoke gray but in the end was worried that the color wasn’t just right. So for a couple dollars more I had Paint Counter Man mix up a quart of Valspar’s Ocean Storm instead. It’s a bit darker and richer than the enamel from Rustoleum.

As a warning, it turned out mucho bueno. You’ll see soon enough.

Other usual items on this trip included light bulbs for our track lights in the kitchen which are flippin’ expensive I’ll just say. $14 for 3. Supposedly they last a long time but we’ve only had our track lights up for about a year and two of the bulbs have already gone out on us.

Also, as you can see we scored some 9 volt batteries – just to restock. You know “they”, the infamous “they”, say that you should replace your smoke alarm batteries every daylight savings time change. It’s an easy way to remember to maintain your alarms. And after last week’s carbon monoxide detector faux pas, we thought it was a good idea.

Finally, not to be too suspenseful or anything but our last item to load up was the Bissell carpet cleaner rental. With two pups you cannot go without borrowing one of these guys once a year. We’ll spare you the nastiness but you know how they work, blow out water, suck up water. Water comes out as dark as motor oil.

You look at it just a little too long, because you’re so amazed at what was living in your carpet, rug and on the back of your couch.

Filthy beasts.

Lunch Break at Lowes

We’re back for another installment of Amy’s lunch breaks at Lowes.  Last time we brought you the super exciting tale of plant shopping (which she’s already killed) complete with Elvis references.

Today, brace yourself, we’re talking miscellaneous supplies for this week’s projects.  Don’t you love a good miscellaneous item?

We’re not ready to spill the beans on the project yet, but you can take a guess after checking out our loot. Two red flower pots and a can of white gloss spraypaint.

Are your wheels spinning? Let us know if you’ve got a guess. We promise we’re not spray painting the flower pots.

Lunch Break at Lowes

It’s never been a secret that we l-o-v-e Lowes Home Improvement stores. I come by it honestly, my parents are also addicted. I’m not sure what Chad’s excuse is.  It all started due to the fact that we are new homeowners, and that home is about 2 miles from a Lowes.  But now I even find myself wandering through those automatic doors on my lunch breaks in Raleigh.  Should I get help?

Many of the times I pop in it is for something specific – today was no different. But before I headed to the door knob section I had to make a few stops along the way.

Holiday clearance, formerly known as the Garden Center. I bet I could score a sweet deal-e-o on that once live Christmas tree.

Elvis was only five bucks! Somehow I resisted the urge and moved on to greener pastures – literally.

Moving inside I was sidetracked by dreams of our new half bathroom, yet to begin.

Those sink legs looked a bit too much like real legs for my taste, weirded me out. I did snap some photos of a few contenders which I will spare you all – for now.

The copper piping around the corner definitely peaked my interest. I now have pipe sconce dreams a la Design Star.

Question. Do we need a new ceiling-mounted light fixture for our kitchen hallway? Probably not. Chad Whited would say definitely not. So I kept walking.

After about 35 minutes in the store what did I actually walk away with?

The door knob I came for, a couple of lovely on-sale house plants, and a bag of wooden clothes pins.

Look out for future installments of my version of Breakfast at Tiffany’s as I am bound to pop in for more random items in the future. Just be warned that you’re in for more cell phone camera shots and pics of my car’s floor board.
