HGTV Magazine
Are you thinking what we were thinking? ANOTHER shelter magazine? They already have a whole channel, why do they need a magazine too? All of these things ran through our minds as we saw promos for the new HGTV Magazine which hit newstands in our area this week.
But alas, we could not simply ignore the premiere issue on the basis of assumed redundancy – so we shelled out the four bucks and brought her home. What can we say? She was cuter than the Harper’s Bazaar with Gaga’s naked face on the cover, and no presidential candidates were mentioned.
So far we can’t put it down, and our only real criticism is that the cover isn’t very exciting – for the whole $ 0.02 that’s worth. We don’t think it needs Gaga or Rick Perry, but maybe just a little more pizzaz.
But we are LURVING all the fun features crammed into the magazine. It’s not heavy on advertising and had tons of fun features. One of our favorites was a spot cleverly titled “Steal the Show” where writers give you tips on how to steal designs from your favorite TV sets. This month features the set of “Cougar Town.”
The designs featured aren’t terribly unique if you’re like us and watch about 29,576 hours of HGTV a week already, hey – it’s no Domino. BUT they are beautiful nonetheless and the articles are useful, interesting and completely relate-able for a young couple like us.
Another favorite was an article about Vern Yip loosening up with his pups – and trying to keep his house clean with them around. It was refreshing to see real tips on this topic and not the Martha Stewart answer like, “regular and thorough grooming of any hypoallergenic dog will keep your Bedford home tidy.”
For some sicko reason we also loved a short one page feature asking HGTV designers what was under their kitchen sinks. Cleaning up under our sink has LONG been on the Whited to-do list and I think this snippet was just the kick in the pants for us to get it done this weekend. And the images weren’t unattainable or staged sink cabinets just someone neat examples of different ways to organize all of that junk that no one wants photographed. Even over-sharing bloggers like us.
So, HGTV Magazine, you AND your messiness seem to get an A plus plus in our book. Thanks for taking the chance on a magazine. We love it as much as Lucy loves our guest bedroom rug, which is a lot if you remember this video.
P.S. We weren’t perked in any way to write this article or heck, even given a free copy of the premiere issue. We forked out four bucks at Barnes and Noble like everyone else and wrote this little blurb because we were skeptical and thought some of you guys might be too. But try it – we bet you’ll like it!
