Durham
Promised and Delivered
If you caught yesterday’s postity post on Durham Mag’s blog you saw that we were chatting up Always Home in a big way. It’s quite the spiffy little consignment shop on Garrett Road here in Durham. Dangerously near the Goodwill.
Well, in that post we promised additional photos since we’re a bit limited in the Durham Mag blog space.
Check it.
Another amazing rug!
And another camel!
The prices were really affordable. There were so many treasures that I wanted to bring home with me. Like this umbrella stand. It made me want to buy those big long umbrellas just so I could use it.
This urn is hiding in the floor, but it should be up top. It’s fab.
I’ll be headed back this weekend. Anyone want to come along?
We failed to mention via Durham Mag’s blog that the shop is open Monday-Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm. Oops!
Shhh…
Last night the females who weren’t eating guacamole and watching basketball in Durham, were found attending the Tre Bella Fashion Show at the Washington Duke.
In order to spread the word about the shop and try to get myself into heaven, I donated a little somethin somethin to the event’s silent auction to benefit Girls on the Run. If you’re not familiar with this organization you should check it out.
We donated a framed Durham Love print as well as a nice little package of Honeymoon at Home items including a Domino home decor book, a Chiang Mai tray, a set of Mine and Yours bar glasses and a pair of our heart shaped bling earrings.
Mucho bueno.
I hope it all sold for lots of monies.
Dressing for Success
Consider this my next birthday wish – doing something nice for someone else. See, it’s not all about buying stuff.
This Friday from 10 AM – 7 PM Smitten in downtown Durham will be offering sweet deals to anyone who comes in and donates an item for Dress for Success. I’ve never been into Smitten but have heard the name is pretty accurate. Plus my closet needs a cleaning anyways.
Here are the details, straight from Durham Magazine’s blog today:
Smitten needs your help dressing the women of Durham for success. Bring your gently-used clothing and accessories to Smitten this Friday from 10am-7pm to donate to Dress for Success, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools. All clean business, casual and event attire will be accepted. Clothing can be on hangers or in bags. In return, Smitten is offering 50 percent off one regular-priced item (excluding Simon Sebbag and Pandora jewelry). Email besmitten@thesmittenboutique.com or call 530-1000 with any questions.
I shall be dropping off some ten year old dresses – and perhaps replacing them with these.
Okay, so it’s half about buying stuff. But the other have is about doing good.
Oh, and I can’t afford these dresses anyways – so maybe I’ll find something half priced at Smitten instead!
Marriage
is about
compromise.
Yes, this is from Backyard. Both sides of it.
Tacky Triangle?
We received the nicest e-mail ever tonight. Please read.
“I’m nominating you guys for Best Local Blog for the Indy 2012 Best of the Triangle! And I’m telling all my friends to vote for you too!
Though I’m torn as to whether or not it’s tacky for a company to ask for nominations, I hope you can find a way to get other votes because y’all deserve it!
Have a great week!
Rachel”
First and foremost. Thanks Rachel. Beyond flattered = us.
And we think you’re right. It could be tacky for us to ask anyone else to vote for us.
Tacky like yellow plaid.
Paired with yellow plaid.
Paired with a mullet.
And a gorilla.
Look at that stance, that swagger. Making that gorilla look good!
What can I say? Everything I do, I do it big.
All of this just to clarify that at least one of us knows a little something about being tacky.
Anyhoo, thanks for the email girly and we hope that the rest of you guys will consider throwing us a bone with Triangle Indy right here. Oh, and you can totally leave some categories blank, like best potatoes? Buy a scooter? Do what?
You only have to answer 20 of 259 categories - the blog category is dead last. You know, just in case.
Local Love: Nana Taco
So we’ve been there about a million times since they’ve opened but are just now getting around sincing Nana Taco’s praises online.
Located in cool old Rockwood building on University that was previously occupied by the Fish Shack and prior to that the Rockwood Filling Station – Nana Taco feels like it’s going to last.
The menu features standard south of the border favorites but combines those tastes with Scott Howell’s high end influence. Yep, it’s owner is also the owner of Nanas. Makes sense right? We love the duck taco. Consider getting two.
Of course the super-fun decor makes me love it even more. Tacos always taste better outside under a colorful lawn lantern.
With this weekend’s weather why not eat a meal or two outside. Makes you forget it’s January – in Durham anyways.
