This Year’s Easy Peasy Christmas Craft
Last year we whipped up some personalized cocoa mugs for my nieces and nephews in just a few minutes with some thrifted mugs and a ceramic paint pen from Michael’s. Relive all the excitement right here.
We even had a reader or two make their own mugs as a result, check out Mindy’s similar project here for some added inspiration. We love how she went a step further and added a cute signature to the bottom of hers.
This year we decided to tackle some artsy DIY holiday ornaments with a fun black and white kick – you know just to keep with our black and white theme from this morning’s post.
These funky ornaments were a lot of fun to make and literally took minutes to finish. Here’s the supply list:
- clear glass ornaments – we like the really big ones we picked up at Hobby Lobby, on sale for $3.49 for four
- craft paint – for us it was Martha Stewart satin paint in three colors, $1.99 a bottle
- ribbon for a decorative touch – we used black and white striped grosgrain ribbon that was $1 a yard we only needed 2
In total we spent about $15 for 8 ornaments.
All you have to do is remove the little hook from the top of your ornament, squirt some paint in it and swirl it around for whatever artistic effect you’d like.
We left the tops off overnight to allow the paint to dry before replacing the hook and tying on a ribbon.
Our only real tip is that if you have a hard time swirling the paint, as in it’s just too thick, add a drop or two of water or even tap the ornament into the palm of your hand until you have the paint where you want it. The bigger your ornament the longer to tap and the more paint to use of course.
And there you have it friends.
In other news I did some more gift shopping today and that went very well.
There was a big sale.
