Hallway Mini-Makeover
You know we don’t always pay a whole lot of attention to the lighting aisles at Lowes or Home Depot. Our casa has fairly updated fixtures, especially since we switched out the chandelier in our dining room and added track and pendant lights to our kitchen – okay so maybe we do pay a little bit of attention to the lighting aisle. It’s just been awhile.
Wandering around this weekend we couldn’t help but notice that Lowes has added some really nice fixtures to their lighting aisle. Especially interesting were all their new vintage inspired designs.
So cool, and actually affordable which is always nice when it comes to lighting. It got us thinking about our boring little hallway light. This guy.
Okay, so he isn’t too boring right? But he is a brownish bronzy color – and doesn’t match any other fixture in our house. Plus the frosted floral-type motif isn’t really our jam.
So caught up in all the lighting aisle excitement we snatched up this little guy.
Isn’t he pretty? Did you notice that he matches our dining room light too?
All we did to switch the light out was, turn off the power at the breaker box of course, and then remove the old light and reconnect the wires to the new light. Just match up what wiring was in place with the new light fixtures and you’ll be set.
But once we got the new fixture in place – that’s when things got a little crazy.
Notice what else we’ve done?
We’ll give you 1 hint. But only 1.
Okay, so we painted room numbers on our guest bedroom doors. 1 for the room with one bed in it – 2 for the room with 2 beds in it. It was kind of a whim, but these little numbers are kinda fun and growing on us.
Alls we did was print a one and a two out from our computer and then cut them out to make sort of a reverse stencil of each number.
We traced the outline of each number on the door and then filled it in with about three coats of craft store paint in dark grey.
As you can see from our two, the first coat was no where near thick enough.
The new light fixture and the quirky painted numbers make for a fun, spontaneous hallway mini-makeover. We likey.

What’d you do with the old fixture? I love it and would give you a couple of bucks for it. Let me know–I’m in durham.
We still have it! We were trying to figure out if we try to Craigslist it or if it earned a trip to the ReStore. It’s yours. I’m sending you an email now.
OMG. We did just this (not the hallway light, the numbered doors) too. It was easier to tell our housekeeper (who we only have in to clean where we actually live – we’ve got plenty of spare space) which specific rooms to clean and to number them.
Too awesome. Also love the kind of hotel feel it gives the door. Like you can open up and check in to a luxurious room.
Cool!

So funny! I bet it looks great. We love the small update. It’s kind of charming.
The light looks great & love the numbers! I never have seen that before but great idea!
