Mirror Mirror

… now on the wall. For Valentine’s Day I gave Chad a full-length mirror for our master bedroom/bathroom. For some reason he likes seeing what he looks like before leaving the house in the morning. Geez… that guy.

We forgot to take a picture of it leaning up against the wall in our bedroom but it looked something like this image from when we tried it out in our guest bedroom. You’ll also remember we went with the black frame mirror for the guest room instead. Still happy with that choice.

Here’s an action shot of the hubs using his brute strength to mount the h-e-a-v-y mirror to our bedroom wall.  It was his gift and it appears he has to do all the heavy lifting.   That’s what he gets for having so much chest hair – the heavy lifting.

We had not even pulled the tape off the bedroom paint job yet, but trust us it was dry.  On my trip to Home Depot that weekend to buy paint supplies I had picked up a couple of dry wall anchors to use to mount the mirror. On Chad’s trip to Lowe’s that weekend (yes sometimes we go to the hardware store separately without the other even knowing it) he picked up this metal sliding bar mount thingy (also known as a French cleat, thanks to Jenn, one of our DIY savvy readers) that had about a dozen holes in it. We went Chad’s route.

The neat thing about this mount is that you attach one piece to the wall and one to the mirror and the two fit together on the wall to mount the mirror. You can slide the mirror back and forth a bit which is nice if for some reason you were to be off by a bit in your mounting. It’s an easy way to insure your mirror is centered on the wall. Plus it has lots of holes in the mounting so you’re easily able to mount it into the studs, not just the dry wall like what I had bought (which would have also required HUGE holes in the wall because of the anchors).

It was kind of similar to the bracket we used to mount our microwave in the kitchen.

Just a little flashback there for fun.

Here’s the end result, a huge mirror,  in all of its wall-mounted glory.

It’s looking pretty good. Our bedroom is starting to look like a purposefully assembled space rather than just the afterthought of our house.

It’s always easy to save the master bedroom for last because when guests visit this is the last room they see. I always cringe a bit when our friends want a “tour” and we have to open the master bedroom door. One because my unmentionables may be laying around, and two because the green monster was anything but welcoming.

We’re hopeful this will become the room we love to relax in and are happy to show off.  Now I just have to find a new corner for my Grandma’s trunk and that flea market lamp.

We may have to go back and mount our mirror in the guest bedroom as well. We’d planned to just leave it leaning up against the wall but now that we see how easy the mounting really can be we’re seriously considering another mounting kit.

What do you guys think?

Anyone else out there tackling long over-due simple home projects? Hanging photos? Mirrors? Painting?
