Easter at Duke Gardens

With both of our families a number of states away, we spend many holidays with good Durham friends in lieu of family. This Easter was no different and while we both miss seeing our families on special days like today, it’s great to spend such a beautiful day at a place like Duke Gardens.

The day basically involved us picnicking with friends and eating ourselves into food comas.

Barton even got to come along but shhh, don’t tell Lucy. She had to stay home and entertain Annie, our four-legged house guest for the weekend. Three dogs would have been a bit much to handle. We’re firm believers the dog to people ration must stay at most 1:1 at all times, especially when food and crowds are involved.  Barton seemed to enjoy himself almost as much as his dad did.

Lucy knew something was up when we got home though. Barton must have smelled different or something because she was all over it. He had definitely been with another woman. We have proof.

We got home, slept off the food babies, sent Annie home with her dad, and then put together a little post-lent centerpiece. Chad and I both gave up sodas for lent, and at least one of us was super excited to celebrate their return.

So much so that our soda bottles are now gracing our dining room table along with some springy mums.

With the exception of that bad burrito night, we both stuck to the plan and survived off water, Snapple Apple, sweet tea, lemonade, chai tea and cherry slurpees for 40 days.  Not sure it was any healthier for us, but we made it through.

Bring on the carbonated bliss.

Happy Easter everyone! How did you guys celebrate?
