Our Mug Shots
The holiday season is one of the best times of year to get those creative juices flowing and, if you have the time, create handmade, thoughtful gifts for friends and family. Don’t get us wrong, we’re spending plenty of time in the stores and even more time shopping online for our loved ones. Making a gift or two by hand is almost relaxing after spending a few hours in the outlet mall and is definitely easier on the pocketbook.
This week we cooked up a set of personalized cocoa mugs for our nieces and nephew’s stocking-stuffers. Don’t worry they are too young to be interested in Aunt Amy and Uncle Chad’s blog.
The best part? We scored the kiddo-sized mugs at a thrift store for only 79 cents a piece – just make sure to run them through the dishwasher before starting.
Once we had four smooth and super-clean mugs it was time to pull out our Porcelaine paint pens which will cost you $3.99 each at Michael’s.
It took about 30 minutes to neatly write the wee one’s names on each mug and add some festive dots around each for a speck of color.
Let these guys dry for a day and then pop them into a 300 degree oven for half an hour.
Cool ‘em off and wrap ‘em up. We added packs of hot cocoa and cider to ours before tying them up in cellophane baggies.
According to the paint pen package, these babies will be dishwasher safe after baking. We didn’t test it out but they look pretty solid. Not too shabby for less than $12 – and that’s only because we bought 2 different color pens.

I love this!!! We just moved into our house a couple of months ago, so the new bills (hello mortgage!) are making this season’s gift buying a little more stressful. These are perfect for a secretary or co-worker gift. Just adorable. Thanks!

AHHHH! I love them Amy!!! The kids are going to go nuts, the girls are big hot chocolate (and yes…gulp….coffee) fans. (Seriously…they get up in the morning and say, can you make some coffee…before they go off to Kindergarten and 3rd grade! -but no I don’t make it) Drew will probably fill his with coke, and right now Jake is in the – I’ll have what you’re having- phase he will probably get alot of black tea or coffee…have to be careful with that one, he’ll be bouncing off the walls! They are going to absolutely love them, and I already do ;) Good thing about being Mommy, I am old enough to be a fan of Aunt Amy’s blog lol!
