To Do: Unfinished Projects
It’s obvious that we love us some DIY projects, home improvements and generally any shenanigan that gives us a reason to head to Lowes. Admittedly we sometimes move on to the next project out of pure excitement planning to adding those finishing touches “tomorrow” to our previous adventure.
Well, as sort of a reverse New Year’s resolution the goal is to end 2010 with 2010′s projects completed.
This means the following MUST get done. That’s right – we’re making the public declaration to keep us honest.
- Hang crown molding in our kitchen – or at least the strips of crown molding that have been laying in our carport for months.
- Plant our bulbs for Spring, also laying around the carport (noticing a trend?)
- Repair the sawed-off shelf above our slightly too-tall new refrigerator.
- Finish up the caulking and trim-work around our slowly updated kitchen.
- Clean up the caulk and trim-work around the built-in office shelves (more on those later).
- Repair the siding on the back porch – melted by one of Chad’s
bonfirescook-outs.
In the true spirit of this post, we’ve already tackled #3. Am I weird for putting things on lists that I’ve already done just for the satisfaction of marking it off right away? No Yes.
Here’s the carnage from our refrigerator switcheroo.
We pulled out the protruding nails, sanded down the rough spots and then cut a new shelf out of cheapo MDF from Lowes.
A little wood glue, a few nails and some paint left us with a new shelf and the return of some much needed storage space.
So now our list looks more like this:
- Kitchen crown molding.
- Bulbs for Spring.
Repair sawed-off shelf.- Trim and caulk kitchen.
- Trim and caulk office shelves.
- Fix our toasted siding.
Keep us accountable. When you see us in the Teeter please stop and ask how the caulking is coming along – we need you.
But enough about us. Anyone else out there in a similar check-it-off and get-it-done boat? Anyone else just love a good list?

I have about a bazillion unfinished projects right now including installing some ground score (a.k.a FREE off the street curb from a kitchen being gutted for remodel!) cabinets I have had for about 2 years and have moved around trying to decide where to install them. Half of them are installed and waiting for paint and the already purchased Ikea hardware, half are sitting in the corner of my living room awaiting their shot at glory. I will send you before and afters one day, but I better add it to my list so I can remember ;). Add that to a laundry room shelf that callapsed this weekend for absolutely no apparent reason (I’m not kidding- it was in the stud and everything) and a broken towl cabinet door (thank you Drew) and I will probably never get to my 4 or 5 cans of paint! Yeah I feel ya! Good Luck!
Ha ha! The melted siding from the barbecue pit — I’ve been there. It’s amazing how much heat they put off. I never had the sawed off shelf above the refrigerator, but I had the sawed off formica counter beside the refrigerator. It stayed that way for years before I replaced the countertop with granite.
